So you could get a 34 slot B class and use cargo bulkheads to upgrade to 40. If this is correct, I have no need to hunt for an S class, since I can already outwarp a fully upgraded S class with my Hauler. A capital freighter in an S-class can spawn with 24-34 general slots and 4-8 technology slots that are usable. On rare occasions, there can be 9 technology slots that are usable. As for warp range, I can only speak on my behalf.
